Updates from AHJA

Congratulations to Ryann Thomas for being the winner of the Bill Jorgensen Memorial Education Fund contest! The weather is getting warmer, the winter/spring circuit is behind us and many of you are getting ready to head to cooler climates to show.

It is with deep regret that I must announce the passing of Renee Wasnik, longtime friend and trainer at Smoke Tree Ranch. AHJA wishes to extend its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Renee, especially her sister Nadine. Renee will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts.

All memberships and points have been updated. Please check to be sure that your points are correct and send any Category I point discrepancies to Karen Mitchell at k.mitchell@rhythmfx.com.

The 2010 AHJA Medal Finals will be held in Tucson November 12th at the Tucson Fall Classic. This year the finals will be held during the day instead of in the evening, in a format very similar to an equitation derby in the outdoor rings. One change to note; there will be NO qualifying classes held during the Tucson Fall Classic show. The final classes in which to qualify will be held the week prior at the Tucson Fall Preview. There are already a good number of people qualified; check the "standings" for a complete list of qualifiers.

This year's AHJA/USHJA sanctioned clinic will again be at the beautiful Los Cedros Equestrian facility October 2-3. This year's clinician is renowned trainer, judge and author Holly Hugo Vidal. Contact Debbie Jamsa at debbiejamsa@happysdreamranch.com to make a clinic reservation or for more information.

AHJA is again proud to award a space in this year's clinic to the winner of the Bill Jorgensen Memorial Education Fund. This year's essay topic is "What is the most important lesson that your horse has taught you?" Please send your essays to AHJA at 15560 N Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. #B-205, Scottsdale, Az. 85260. Essays must be received at the box by August 15th, 2010. No late entries will be accepted. Please remember that the essay contest is only open to current AHJA members in good standing. Results will be posted on the AHJA website and the winner notified by September 1, 2010.

We are sad to lose board member Becky Navarette to a move to Colorado and we wish her the best in her new home. We would like to welcome two new board members; Alison Bigbee and Ana Carlson.
